Study Tour to Kenya 2012
Introduction
Do you want to visit Kenya to meet the Maasai people and learn about their history, culture and the present challenges they are facing as well as their strategies to overcome the challenges.
In February 2012 Youth Town arranges a study tour to Kenya in cooperation with the Maasai Eco Travel Agency Nice Safarisi and a local NGO; Indigenous Movement for Peace Advancement and Conflict Transformation
The Objective of the study tour
- To explore, interrogate and understand the influence modern and technological development has had on the traditional Maasai cultures and livelihoods systems. It is also important how the Maasai people have positioned themselves to protect and defend their interests.
- To get the opportunity to establish partnerships with some of the schools and organizations included in the program.
- To get the opportunity to experience the fantastic nature and wildlife of Kenya.
Content
Visit to Maasai homesteads and experience their way of life
Visit to Maasai elders
Visit schools
Visit game parks and see how Maasai participate in conservations of wildlife and contribute to national heritage
There will be direct contacts and public forums with the Maasai people in Maasai in Narok, Laikipia and Kajiado.
Visit community owned and operated conservations projects
Visit and hold discussions with several Maasai NGOs and youth organizations
Preparation and period of travel
Introductory meeting in Youth Town Monday January 9th, 2012 10.00 – 15.30
Departure from Copenhagen: Friday, February 10tn, 2012
Arrival in Copenhagen: Tuesday, February 20tn, 2012
The price of the study tour is 17.800 kr. – and covers
An introductory meeting in Youth Town (transportation to Youth Town at your own expense)
Return flight from Copenhagen to Nairobi
All local transportation – in safari customized 4 wd land cruisers with 6-7 seats each
Accommodation in twin bedded rooms
Entrance fee to national parks
There will be an extra charge of 2.000,- kr. for single rooms.
Your registration is binding when you pay the first part: 8.900,- kr. at the latest September 8th, 2011 – binding due to the air tickets. Payment of the second part: 8.900,- kr. (+ eventual extra charge for single rooms) January 5th, 2012 at the latest.
